…if I mention going back to school the very first week you’re back in school?

There are some new studies out about RN employment and they are showing that at the moment it’s hard for new grads to get an RN job than it has been anytime in the last three years. Of course, even if you’re starting your last year in school you’ve still got until May, a lot could change between now and then. BUT if the economy doesn’t improve, there may continue to be a glut-like situation for new nurses.

Experts believe the best explanation for this is that nurses who were in community or non-acute care have shifted to hospital jobs in order to take advantage of 1. higher salaries in the hospital setting 2. shift scheduling which may allow the RN to work more than one full time job.
Since this situation is likely to reverse itself as soon as the economy gets better, this might be the time to stay in school. If you’re thinking of getting a BSN, apply for a bridge program now! When you’re done with your degree you’ll be even more qualified and have even more options.

Far be it from me to tell you what to do, but it’s definitely something to think about!
