Glenn Gave, a nurse in Charleston, South Carolina, had given chemo many times. But when she was diagnosed with breast cancer a few years ago, she found herself on the other end of the needle.

If you haven’t taken care of a health provider in clinical yet, well, it’s something to look forward to. Sometimes we are great patients, capable of advocating for ourselves while at the same time being sensitive to the the complex priorities and limits of nursing care in the hospital setting. At other times well..let’s just say we know too much.

But Glenn Gave decided to take her experience as a patient on the road. She not only started a blog about her experiences she developed a one woman show called The Mammologues, a comic but poignant look at her experiences. You can see a small video clip here.

She was named a Healthcare Hero for 2008 by the Charlestown Business Journal. It’s awesome to see a nurse making art that touches lives!
